Professional Destiny edition by Valerie Hausladen Religion Spirituality eBooks

I have seen a lot of books that promise similar things in the past, and this is the first one that I truly believed lived up to the potential it had. This author has written a rather comprehensive book on figuring out what to do with your life, professionally speaking, and how to apply your innermost desires to make your work personally fulfilling.

What I enjoyed the most about reading this, was that it was very straightforward and was not too spiritual or too dry and businesslike. The author makes you feel as thought you are talking to a friend, perhaps while you are getting a massage and eating chocolate. It was a pleasant experience and I found the pages quickly flew by. The other thing that I respected about this book was how the author approached arranging it. She did not make big promises on page one and then leave you wondering at the end. She pointed out key factors from small changes to bigger opportunities and how to make them possible for the everyday person.

While reading this, I didn't feel that I had to be older, wiser or part of a certain group to understand the content and apply it to my life. I thought this book was inspiring and practical and would recommend it to absolutely anyone, whether you are just starting out or if you are a seasoned professional. Wonderful, deserved more than five stars.

excellent book and hearty and necessary helpful funny and witty and loveable and heart warming and
comfortable and moderate and loving.
...just not in this book. Good insight into what it will be like to align your skills with your true purpose. But lacks any practical exercises to flesh this out beyond meditation and getting in touch with our inner self. If I had the answer somewhere inside I wouldn't need to seek it in a book. A good read but just lacks the substance I sought.
There are quite a few things that I love about this book. And I think its best to enumerate in order to better digest the key points that, in my mind, make this book so unique

1. Its written in a style as though the author is sitting right next to you speaking to you. You dont feel like you are being "talked at" or even "talked down to", you feel like you are not only being spoken to, but also listened to as well. Valerie gives examples of how she has felt and puts herself in your shoes or vice versa. She is not afraid to show her vulnerability, which is incredibly rare in the industry she has worked in for most of her life. I know this b/c I have worked in the same one. That is how I met her.

2. Having met with Valerie made it even more helpful when reading her book because I knew she wasnt just spouting rhetoric. She is living what she is writing. This is not a "self help" book that sends the message of "Do as I say, not as I do". And because of this, she has inspired me greatly. She has helped remove my fears about my purpose, who I "really" am, and helped to accept myself and my talents as positives. She really made me see myself in a positive light.

3. This is one of those books that can serve as a quick reference book. One that can either be read over and over again (like "Who Moved My Cheese?") or the reader can just go back to specific sections or chapters to remind themselves of important messages possibly forgotten.

4. Finally, her use of quotations for every chapter gives the reader a feeling of hope. Many of us reading the book may feel alone in our quest, afraid of change, and maybe afraid of ourselves. But with Valerie's writing style as well as the use of quotations, you know you are not alone. Each quotation, so carefully chosen, reinforces her message and makes the reader feel like they are not some freak, but truly a part of the world around them. A true participant in the human race, who wants the same thing as everyone else happiness, a feeling of fullness and satisfaction in our every day life, self confidence, and empowerment.

Thanks Valerie, for giving a part of yourself to the rest of us. The world can always use inspiration like this. I know I can and it has propelled me from unemployment to self employment. Something that I was sure I would never do again because I failed the first time. But this time, I know its different and your wisdom has helped me discern between the two.
Valerie Hausladen's book "Professional Destiny" resonated with me a great deal, in part because she speaks a Universal Truth. Those of us fortunate enough to have our basic needs met find ourselves aspiring to serve some greater purpose. I appreciated that she didn't make reference to religion or New Age dogmas. She sets it up from the introduction that it doesn't matter what you believe in, so long as you acknowledge there is a "creative force larger than ourselves" that governs our desires. I enjoyed reading the stories of Valerie's friends and the lessons in their pursuits for life purpose. It's encouraging for those needing the support to make a major life change. I wish I had read this book a year ago when I left a prestigious career in Los Angeles and moved to Denver, CO without another job offer. I could really relate to Valerie's own journey and her realization that focusing "solely on outward accomplishments" didn't make her happy or fulfilled. There is no easy road and sometimes the signs along the way are confusing, but it's books like this one that will give you the confidence to navigate through the darkness and the courage to follow your heart.

The assumptions she makes about having enough to eat while you fulfill your Professional Destiny seem to be unconscious on her part, but made the advice she gives not very helpful to me. I have been poor my whole life, and working at 3 and 4 jobs to put food on the table for my 4 kids. Her book seems to be targeted toward wealthy and successful white collar workers who feel unfulfilled with all their material wealth. I just can't relate. There are a few bits of good advice about attitude, but she also espouses the "believe it and it will happen" dogma that only works if you have something to start with. If it worked, most people in this country would be better off than they are. She also implies that the person who doesn't succeed using these methods isn't doing it right, rather than the more likely theory that her methods don't work for everyone in every situation. It was just ok.
